ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on articles published in the major forensic science journals as well as papers presented at international forensic questioned document or other meetings during the period 2004 to 2007. The basic equipment for questioned documents consists of the video spectral comparator that is produced by Foster & Freeman or Projectina, an electrostatic detector apparatus, and stereo microscopes. The collaboration between the forensic laboratories and the border police forces appears essential in order to share knowledge and to establish the most exhaustive state of the art techniques in the field of the counterfeits and forgeries. The comparison of handwritings was the subject of many publications concerning the analysis of specific characteristics. Forensic laboratories are conscious that they must demonstrate the quality of their work, so the majority takes part in different proficiency testing programmes commercially available like CTS or EDEWG.
