ABSTRACT
Several definitions of what constitutes the duties of an intelligence or crime analyst have been debated throughout the law enforcement profession since at least 1972. This was noted in a review of numerous job descriptions from around the United States in March 2000. Although at all levels and professions these analysts perform a wide range of tasks and skill sets, researchers consistently noted that gathering, analyzing, and disseminating crime information are among the daily duties of those they examined.
