ABSTRACT
Due to the unique nature and high profile of use-of-force investigations, written guidelines are required in order to guarantee consistency and continuity of all such investigations. A set of consistently applied guidelines will also serve to diminish staff, media, and public criticism of the manner in which such cases are investigated and documented. The investigative procedures discussed below can be used as a format for investigations and can be adapted to suit the circumstances of a specific incident under investigation.
