Information technology (IT) is viewed as one of the solutions for reducing the information ‘‘collection burden’’ on citizens and businesses. Using technology, information sharing between government agencies is frequently proposed as the method to efficiently use the vast amounts of information collected by government. The terms information sharing and data sharing are frequently used synonymously despite being separate concepts. This chapter examines both concepts as found in public administration literature and proposes some clarifications between them.
