This chapter examines the types of sharing of information technology (IT) resources that take place among governmental organizations. It adopts a broad definition of sharing, including formal and informal sharing of resources. It studies sharing relationships among local governments, between state and local governments, between the federal and state governments, and other complex relationships that include private organizations. A wide variety of examples of sharing are drawn from available resources in order to identify the types of sharing that exist and the key factors that influence its success.
