ABSTRACT

Be open with your children about money matters. Many families hold regular conferences, children included, to review finances. Every family member should be encouraged to speak out freely about his or her own priorities or goals. This way you can illustrate that priorities need to be set and that trade-offs are sometimes necessary for effective use of money. Even a fairly young child, for instance, should be able to understand that paying for shelter and groceries takes a higher priority over a new bike or a trip to an amusement park. Attending these

sessions can give your children a sense of involvement and a greater willingness to work toward meeting family financial goals.
