ABSTRACT
The Russian health care system exists in a turbulent social and economic environment. Consideration of this environment is important since health is determined by more than the delivery of health care. The following sections offer a brief overview of geography and government, demographic characteristics, the environment, and education. All of these factors shape the mission and goals of a system that provides health care and improves the nation's heath.
