ABSTRACT
The United States became a global economic and political leader during the Industrial Revolution in the late 19th century. Our “Manifest Destiny” was predetermined 150 years ago by abundant natural resources, massive immigration of many willing (and unwilling) workers, unregulated laissezfaire capitalism, invention of the assembly line, and application of scientific management principles to industry.
