ABSTRACT

Teenaged girls today range from the truly naive to the pseudo-sophisticated, from those who maintain their virginity to those vulnerable to peer pressure involving sexual relations to the promiscuous. They are exposed to sexually explicit films and song lyrics which almost assume that sexual relations among the young are the norm, while their parents debate with school boards as to whether there should be sex education in the schools and if there should, how much information and what kinds should be included. Surrounded by titillating stimuli, but with insufficient factual information to help them cope with it, pre-adolescents and adolescents alike are often ill-prepared to prevent pregnancy or to deal with it.
