ABSTRACT
Rape and sexual assault include criminal offenses in which victims are forced or coerced to participate in sexual activity. Physical violence may or may not be involved. The terms rape and sexual assault are used interchangeably in this book and are not to be construed as a legal definition. Each jurisdiction will apply its own legal definition to an offense.
