ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is the preparation and presentation of rape cases for trial. The trial of a rape case, like any other criminal case, is a series of connected parts dependent on one another. A trial is a network of interrelated pieces, all making up a discernible pattern. Everything that is done in the preparation stage must serve a purpose in terms of setting up the closing argument. From the start of jury selection, 90% of the closing statement should already have been prepared mentally or on paper. The remaining 10% is filled in based on material that is unforeseen at the start and developed during the course of the trial.
