ABSTRACT

The venue for conducting a death investigation depends on the phase of the investigation. Of course, the scene investigation is typically conducted wherever the death occurs, where a dead body is found, or where the events leading to death are thought or known to have occurred. No matter what type of death investigation occurs, there is usually someone — a policeman, the local coroner, the medical examiner, or even a physician or pathologist in a hospital — who is available to inspect the scene if necessary. Most scene investigations occur in homes and residences or in businesses (places where people work), because that is where people who are not hospitalized tend to spend most of their time, and hence where they tend to die.
