ABSTRACT

It is estimated that it would take approximately 800 to 1000 full-time forensic pathologists to conduct and oversee all death investigations in the U.S. Unfortunately, since the first board examination in forensic pathology in 1960, there have been only about 1300 people certified in forensic pathology (Figure 9.1). During that time, many of those people have died, or retired. Further, not all people who are board certified in forensic pathology practice it full time or at all.
