ABSTRACT

The extent of a mass fatality incident can vary considerably from involving only a few dead people to hundreds or thousands at a time. Some people define a mass disaster as any incident in which four or more people are killed in the same incident. Thus, the resources needed to manage a mass fatality incident vary considerably depending on the type and extent of the disaster. The two most extensive mass fatality incidents in recent years were the World Trade Center terrorist attack and the Tsunami devastation in the Pacific.
