ABSTRACT

For many years the fields of Organizational Behavior and Organizational Development have focused a good deal on teams in work organizations. Organizational Behavior has often studied teamwork with particular interest in the performance of teams versus individuals. (1) In general, it is well accepted that teamwork, when done honestly with real issues, increases acceptance of team actions with the team members, improves speed and accuracy in decision making, and improves productivity in some situations. (2) Self-managed teams, those with control over areas such as scheduling their work, hiring into their team, and recognition and rewards, also tend to increase productivity and motivation.
