In this chapter, runaways/thrownaways, benign episodes, and lost, injured, and otherwise missing children will be discussed. When it comes to missing children, research and statistics show that runaways, thrownaways, benign episodes, and lost, injured, or otherwise missing will be the most frequent calls for a police response to a missing child. e National Runaway Switchboard estimates that more than 1,200 children in the United States run away from home each day. is staggering estimate ampliªes that runaways alone are high volume calls for law enforcement.
