ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will try to describe the role of technology in implementing continuous improvement programs. We say “try” because the task is daunting, if not overwhelming. To cover the entire topic is impossible; to select what is relevant to our discussion is challenging. Consequently, we will be selective in what we present and supplement it with a number of references that you can refer to if you want additional information. Technology is important; however, it is only one of the three essential elements in making continuous improvement programs successful. In Chapter 8, we will describe the need for building the infrastructure necessary to support the improvement programs, and in Chapter 9, we will discuss the importance of organizational culture in the change management process.
