ABSTRACT
Arson is defined as the willful and malicious burning of another’s property or the burning of one’s own property for some illegal purpose such as defrauding an insurer. As a crime, arson ranks only behind traffic-related incidents in the highest losses of life and property. In dollars, property losses due to arson can be placed in the billions of dollars annually.
