ABSTRACT

Before we launch directly into the TRIZ subject matter, it’s important to come back to the concept of psychological inertia, which we defined in Part I. We made the bold claim that nearly all existing innovation methods are based on divergent thinking and methods of brainstorming that only help the mind think the best it can about what it knows. We mentioned, too, that the reason these methods are so limiting is that the nature of innovation is to discover what you don’t know. Like any wide and perilous river, it’s hard to cross without a bridge, and TRIZ is that bridge.
