ABSTRACT

Quality Assurance To ensure the quality of all results reported, it is essential that a laboratory have an established quality assurance program. Qual ity assurance programs, when strictly maintained, are designed to ensure that the reported results are scientifically valid and that opinions are based only upon results that are deemed reliable. Quality assurance programs contain a number of requirements that must be adhered to by laboratory management and scientists. Such requirements may include required education of staff, peer review of scientific results or reports, specific case file documentation, distribution of reports, auditing of testimony, evidence handling, and security of the laboratory.
