ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will focus on image databases of:

Fingerprints• Handwriting• Cartridge cases• Toolmarks• Shoeprints• Drugs and tablets•

In all these databases, the image has to be searched through the Query By Example (QBE) framework for formulating similarity queries over the images.1 In QBE, a user formulates a query by providing an example of the object that is similar to the object the user would like to use. The oldest database in forensic science is the fingerprints database. Although there is a lot of information on these databases, in this chapter we discuss some background of the fingerprint work before continuing with the separate databases.
