ABSTRACT
Italy, due to its geopolitical pro‹le in the Mediterranean area, symbolizes an imaginary hub that connects the richer states of the European Union (EU) to African and Arabic countries, people, and cultures. Because of this, Italy became a point of arrival for massive human migration œows from Africa and the Middle East. It is one of the preferred countries for illegal immigrants who wish to take up permanent residence or use Italy as a transit point en route to other countries in Central Europe.
