ABSTRACT

In this chapter the mixed model of law is examined for three countries. e rst country discussed is Bulgaria. At one time, Bulgaria was one of the communist countries in Eastern Europe. Its present legal system is based on a civil law system, with Soviet law inuence. In addition, Bulgaria has accepted the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice. e second country explored is India, whose legal system is based on a combination of civil and common law. e nal country is Sri Lanka, which has a highly complex mixture of English common law, Roman-Dutch law, Muslim law, and customary laws. For the most part, the basis of Sri Lanka’s criminal law and procedure is the common law model.
