ABSTRACT

Except for recent statistical increases in the last few years, for over a decade crime in the United States has decreased (see Figure 17.1). Yet my personal experience is that people do not feel safer. When people do not feel safe, they act in different ways to protect their property and themselves. Whether the threat is from the workplace violence, threats of terrorism, or street crime, crime impacts how and where we work and play. Crime analysis for 2006 is projecting an increase in crimes of violence, and this will most likely continue in 2007..
