ABSTRACT

Workplace violence is the most important security threat to America’s largest corporations, according to a Fortune 1000 survey conducted by Pinkerton’s Inc. in Westlake, California (Security Management, 1999, p. 9; Pinkerton, 2001, p. 5). The threat of criminal assault during the course of employment has always been a recognized hazard for certain workers, but now we see that threat expanding to potentially all work environments. Almost every day, there is an article in the paper about a fired employee coming back and killing a supervisor, and usually a few innocent bystanders.
