ABSTRACT

How does living with violence and fear impact someone’s vulnerability to disaster? How should emergency managers, caseworkers, shelter providers, child and elder care workers, and community advocates respond to problems of general violence before, during, and after disaster? How extensive is domestic violence in the aftermath of disaster, in particular? The purpose of this chapter is to examine concerns about all kinds of violence in a disaster context and recommend practical strategies to reduce injuries and deaths from all forms of violent behavior.
