ABSTRACT

Sarah was excited to get back to college and get away from her overprotective parents. But without her parents, she likely would not have been in college. She was just never able to make a decision about where she wanted to go or what she wanted to study. Her mother actually wrote her college essay and completed all her college applications. Come to think of it, Sarah had difficulty making decisions and functioning independently all her life. Now she was happy that she would not have to deal with her parents asking questions about her social life, and she could do what she wanted without having to answer to anyone. She certainly had a good time her freshman year, partying, drinking with friends, and having the occasional unprotected one-night stand. Several months ago, Sarah had stopped menstruating and was worried about possibly being pregnant. Upon returning to school, she went to the health center for a flu shot and wanted to mention something to the nurse when she was there. However, she had always had irregular cycles and did not think it could actually ever happen to her, so she never brought it up. She bought a pregnancy test a couple of months ago but was too scared to take it, so she just threw it away. Whenever she got worried about being pregnant, she would just take a nap and wish it would all go away. Just the thought of being pregnant would instantly overwhelm her. She would simply tell herself to think about something else. She never told anyone that she thought she might be pregnant because she did not want to disappoint anyone. What would they think of her?
