ABSTRACT

Before starting the mapping process, the process improvement team fi rst needs to understand its customers’ requirements. It is vital for the process improvement team to understand the customers’ requirements; however, every person in the organization should also understand the customers’ requirements. Takt time is the frequency with which the customer wants a product. In other words, it is how frequently a sold unit must be produced. You can calculate this time by dividing your available production time in a shift by your customer demand for products that are made during a given shift. Takt time is usually expressed in seconds. However, depending on the product and the industry, takt time can be expressed in hours, days, or weeks.
