ABSTRACT

So far, we have covered three Lean tools: Six Sigma (described in Chapter 11), which focuses on improving product quality by reducing process variation; 5S (described in Chapter 12), which improves productivity by creating a clean and manageable workplace; and Single-Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED; described in Chapter 13), which improves productivity by reducing setup time. Standard Work is another Lean tool; it defi nes and documents the interaction between people and their environment.
