ABSTRACT

As investigators gain experience through the years, they will naturally collect a large assortment of camera accessories to help them document crime scenes more thoroughly and accurately. Some of these attachments and accoutrements will be used repeatedly, while others will be placed on a shelf where they collect dust. The choice of what to carry and have readily available is an individual decision and dependent upon the investigator’s specific job assignment and duties. There are a few items that are necessities, including the camera itself. The cost of photography equipment and the financial resources available often play a major role in determining what kinds of photographic accessories are available. Fortunately, some expenses can be lessened through purchasing used equipment, using a little creativity, and occasionally thinking outside the box. Because this text is designed for those with a basic understanding of photography, none of the equipment detailed should be unheard of. However, due to the expense of such equipment, less-expensive alternatives will be introduced that should be of value to photographers.
