ABSTRACT

People who have professional objectives will surely want to under-take new activities or shape existing e£orts along these lines. One aspect of reality is the need to get cooperation and support from others for whatever we want to do. We need to get others to agree which activities are desirable, feasible, and necessary. We need to get them to agree that certain standards should be met, whether they are about program performance or about doing the right thing by stakeholders. We also need to get them to agree to provide mutual support to help realize certain tasks, such as taking turns attending meetings or answering phone calls. Collaborating with others and getting them to get other people to do things are essential people skills. Getting others to work with us and do certain things well greatly a£ects the performance of our own goals as well as those of our organizations.
