ABSTRACT

Everyone sometimes get angry, upset, or nervous at work. People become irritable, angry, withdrawn, impulsive, worried, and nervous and are given to ©ights of fancy. Such responses a£ect people’s relations and performance. Becoming angry or irritable can cause people to interrupt others or use a tone of voice that is typically taken as showing a lack of courtesy and respect. Being withdrawn leads to a lack of social interaction that others may interpret as unwelcoming or even disrespectful. Being angry or worried and having ©ights of fancy and grandiosity can also cause others to question one’s capability; a professional person is usually taken to be someone who stays calm and has things under control. While everyone is sometimes given to such behaviors, habitual behaviors will certainly a£ect one’s ability to get along and be e£ective. Even demonstrating such behaviors toward strangers may leave quite unfavorable —rst impressions.
