ABSTRACT

It is common to speak of the Lean journey, which is the appropriate metaphor in many ways. In the context of continuous improvement, we can think of the effort to eliminate waste and improve efficiency as an ongoing process rather than as a project. Even though some projects are vast in scope, they nonetheless have end points. There is a little flag there in the lower right of the Gantt chart, but unless that flag is labeled “perfection,” this isn’t the right way to represent Lean activities.
