ABSTRACT

Information is knowledge, which is power. One way to think about information is as a flow of messages, which, once embedded in a person’s mind, is knowledge. There are, however, two types of knowledge: (1) explicit knowledge that can be expressed, formalized, and shared through manuals or specifications; and (2) tacit knowledge that is not easily expressible and cannot be formalized, such as insights, feelings, morale, or working atmosphere. When information has been processed in someone’s mind in the form of explicit knowledge, it can be translated into action.
