ABSTRACT
An employee performance appraisal is one of the most frustrating rituals of today’s workplace. Very few people enjoy preparing them. Fewer still enjoy having their performance appraised. Employees and managers alike seem to distrust and avoid them. However, the continuous demand for quality and outstanding customer service makes the employee performance evaluation a vital tool for the survival of the organization. e key to an organization’s success is its ability to accurately gauge the relative strengths and weaknesses of each of its employees and set reasonable performance goals. Organizations must be adept at measuring, predicting, and guiding the performance of their employees. Additionally, employees need to feel they can make valuable contributions to the organization, while advancing their personal skills and responsibilities within the organization. Only through an e–ective system of employee performance evaluations can the sta– be guided for development and improvement (Krug, 1998).
