ABSTRACT

A Family Assistance Center (FAC) should be established immediately after a mass fatalities incident to provide a safe and private location for families to gather (Figure  3.1). A FAC needs to be a “safe place” where families can provide authorities with information that may assist in locating and identifying their missing family member(s), attend daily briengs from ofcials regarding the progress of the investigation and the recovery process, receive emotional and physical support, and,

as needed, receive the ofcial notication of death from the Medical Examiner.
