ABSTRACT
Under the category “grenade” there are three distinctly different category types that are broken down in Appendix A, logic tree 2:
1. Hand grenade 2. Rifle grenade 3. Projected grenade
There have been thousands of different grenade designs manufactured over the years. This chapter focuses on establishing the category-type and group to which an unknown grenade belongs. Yet with so many designs, many of which are culturally influenced, it is impossible to cover every grenade. The rules associated with shapes, construction features, materials, and functional designs certainly apply. But oftentimes, detecting an exception to an established rule offers the key to positively identifying an unknown munition.
