Brie©y, the subinterval method divides a single run into equal time subintervals, each representing an observation. In the replication method, each run represents an observation. Design environment for event-driven simulation (DEEDS) allows the implementation of both methods through the use of control statements that de›ne the Number of Observations, the Run Length, and the Transient Time. €e parameters are on the InitialModel spreadsheet in Figure 12.1. By de›nition, lapsed time for each observation is

Recall from Section 6.4, the transient time is the warm-up period for the model at the start of a run. €e default values for Run Length, Number of Observations, and Transient Time are in›nity, 1, and 0, respectively. In either case, Observation 0 output corresponds to data collected during the transient time.
