ABSTRACT

A classic example is a telephone exchange, in which system performance, as perceived by the user, is a¤ected by the behavior of others. €e scope of performance evaluation has expanded a great deal since then, but a 1909 publication by A. K. Erlang [1], the Danish mathematician and engineer, is viewed as the original system performance evaluation. Because performance is a¤ected by statistical data and performance metrics are expressed using probabilities Erlang’s publication has the basic features of system performance evaluation.
