ABSTRACT

The word kaizen is a Japanese word meaning continuous improvement. A kaizen event is a team activity that is intended to create a “significant improvement” in the process being investigated. These events should be used when you need significant cross-functional help to affect the improvement desired or one that will be difficult to accomplish due to complexity or politics. There are two types of kaizen events:

1. System (flow) kaizen: Focuses on the overall value stream and is typically performed by management.
