ABSTRACT

The primary goal of process design using Lean 3P is the overall system performance. Critical decisions, such as to build one process operation or five, have to take precedence over an individual alternative’s beneficial attributes. There is a hierarchy of decisions that have to be considered. First we harmonize the product attributes with the overall process capability. Then we seek to optimize the overall process, looking at scale, levels of complexity, and the role and needs of the people who will interact with it. Finally we look to the subsystems and evaluate the benefits of each facet, in harmony with the whole.
