ABSTRACT

Witnesses are an important source of police information. ey can ožen provide descriptions of suspects and their vehicle. SRI –ndings indicate those victims’ reports are not usually e¡ective sources for solving burglaries. Victims primarily provide information about what items are missing. Witnesses and casual informants are more e¡ective in suspect identi–cation than victims. Most contemporary burglars probably should not be considered professionals, since they actively commit other crimes such as robbery, auto thež, shopližing, and forgery. is makes it dicult to determine their modus operandi, as they do not have any readily identi–able trademarks or habits.
