ABSTRACT
The purpose of this chapter is to discuss domestic violence among Native Americans (hereafter, Indians). It will also touch on the prevalence, potential causes, official and cultural responses, and how the problem is conceptualized in tribal communities. At the end of this chapter, readers will be able to determine if the problem of domestic violence is any more or less significant in tribal communities than it is among other, non-Indian groups.
