ABSTRACT

Hybrid ways of doing work are also common, such as batch production within continuous and repetitive processes. A variation of the hybrid theme is to repetitively produce a batch of one kind of product, then modify the process to repetitively produce a batch of a slightly different product. The batches are usually large and changeovers are infrequent. An example is a repetitive manufacturer of garden tools that in midsummer switches over to produce rakes, then switches in fall to produce snow shovels, then in midwinter to again produce garden tools.
