ABSTRACT
A characteristic of an efficient production system is that jobs and materials flow smoothly through the system, most production lead time is value-added processing, and jobs hardly ever have to wait. Since production schedules dictate the frequency and level of changes in products and output volumes, smooth production flow is largely a matter of scheduling.
