ABSTRACT

The 3Ms (measure, manage to the measure, make it easier) are for everyone. Process improvement should be taught to everyone. Keeping it all straight, such as the steps in PDSA (plan-do-study-act), can be difficult, though. People who are part-time process improvement practitioners find it more difficult to remember the steps in process improvement because they do not get the repetition that a person who works full time in performance improvement gets. The third M is to make change easier. The best way I have found to make process improvement easier is to give a step-by-step plan. The Roadmap to Performance Excellence™ is a step-by-step plan. It is called a roadmap because it is much like a highway map. Its purpose is to make it easier to navigate to your destination-successful improvement and celebration with the team. We use the Roadmap for the balance of the book to keep you on the right path for process improvement. I also hope it prevents you from getting lost. See Figure 5.1 for the Roadmap. You can also see the roadmap on my Web site, https://www.rpmexec.com.
