ABSTRACT

Modern video cameras, camcorders, even digital single lens reflex (SLR) cameras have progressed dramatically in recent years, a process that will continue. As of this writing, digital camcorders record in high definition (HD), and depending on the camera, the resulting screen resolution can be 720 or 1080, the highest resolution available on televisions. Even relatively inexpensive camcorders record in 1080 HD and can deliver 14 megapixel still photographs. Modern digital camcorders are affordable and readily available, so there is no excuse for a police agency or crime scene unit not to have video capability, even as part of the functionality of a contemporary digital SLR camera. This mixed-capability digital recording/ photography in the same camera can change how the forensic archivist works.
