ABSTRACT

With the exception of fingerprints, impression or pattern evidence, as a class of physical evidence, may be the most overlooked in investigations. The reasons vary, but much has to do with training and the failure to apply logic when searching the scene. The team leader is responsible for the investigation and must dictate the team’s strategy, which includes when and where to search for or consider that impression evidence is present. Figure 11.1 shows several reasons why impression evidence may be overlooked or ignored.
