ABSTRACT

Taphonomic research on human decomposition focuses on the stages through which a body progresses from “fresh” to the time a skeleton breaks down and involves a series of physiochemical changes that lead to the dissolution of so„ tissue. As such, it involves evaluating all aspects of this process from the breakdown of the so„ tissues, to arthropod infestation activities and animal scavenging, as well as subsequent eœects on the contextual environment. ‹e sequential nature of human decomposition makes it extremely important to the medicolegal investigation because the series can provide answers to essential questions.
