ABSTRACT
It is important to try and understand the magnitude of the problem(s) that the young person is experiencing. Get as complete a picture as possible so that the young person knows that you can appreciate what they are going through otherwise you will invariably be greeted with the response ‘you don’t understand’ however empathetic you are. Aim to convey that if the problems are broken into sections it is often possible to find a solution that can be implemented successfully.
